Penpal Program

The one thing that almost every prisoner writes about, is the need for a penpal.  Their lives are filled with time, time, and more time; and encouraging words from God fearing men and women can really give their waning spirits a boost.  On the other hand, some of our penpals have been the recipients of wonderful, heartwarming letters reflecting the beautiful testimonies of the Lord's work in prison.  If you have a few minutes a month; you could write and offer encouragement to someone who would truly appreciate your words - will you consider being a PFM PENPAL? 

Having read the news a few times of penpal/prisoner friendships gone awry after release; we knew that first and foremost, our PENPALS must be protected.  We offer 2 options - here is how they work!

Option #1 -  PENPAL will write a hand written letter, using a "pseudo" name or ONLY your first name by way of introduction.  The letter is mailed to The Prisoner's Friend Ministry, removed from the original envelope, read and approved for mailing, and put into a PFM envelope and forwarded to the prisoner.  The prisoner will write the PENPAL, and mail their letter back to PFM.  Upon receipt, PFM staff will read and approve the letter to be forwarded to the PENPAL.  Neither PENPAL nor prisoner knows the full identity of the person they are writing.  PFM will provide an information sheet with guidelines on writing as a PENPAL.  We will block all personal information, addresses, and phone numbers FOR YOUR SAFETY.

Option #2 - PENPAL may write a prisoner via email.  PENPAL writes a letter and emails it to brokoonce@yahoo.com using the prisoner name as the Subject line.  Upon receipt of the email, PFM staff will read and approve it for printing.  It will then be cropped at the address line, and forwarded to the prisoner.  When the prisoner writes back, the letter will either be scanned and emailed back to PENPAL, or forwarded by mail, depending on the options chosen by PENPAL.
